Celebrating Life - How One by One mentors support moms who choose life for their babies

For most women, finding out they are pregnant is a cause for celebration. But imagine you weren’t planning to get pregnant. And maybe you’re alone – because you live away from family or because your family (and maybe even your boyfriend) don’t support your decision to keep your baby. Where do you turn? How will you do this on your own?

The answer is – you don’t have to do it alone. At One by One, it’s always been our goal to walk alongside new moms throughout their pregnancies and at least until their babies turn one. Our mentors love and support our moms without judgment. They provide friendship, support, and parenting education to help moms learn to parent well. We want every mom to know she is not alone - because we are here to help.

If you’re pregnant or mom to a newborn, you can request a One by One mentor. Your mentor will talk/text you weekly and meet with you each month throughout your pregnancy and until your baby turns one. We’ll give you a binder covering how your baby is growing each month, what skills he or she is developing, and practical ways you can help keep your baby safe and develop on track. We’ll use the materials in this binder at each meeting.

But we’ll also listen, because that’s what friends do. We’ll be there when you need a shoulder to cry on as well as when you’re ready to celebrate milestones. We’ll help you gain access to resources you need. And we’ll talk to you about God’s great love for you and your baby – and remind you He has great plans for your life even when you don’t see it.

We want you to be your baby’s first and best teacher. While we cover baby health, wellness, and safety, we also cover the important language, social, emotional, and motor skills your baby will develop between birth and age 3. Studies show your baby’s growth during these years contributes so much to your baby’s future success. We want your child to be ready for kindergarten when the time comes because studies show if he’s kindergarten ready, he’s much more likely to graduate from high school, attend trade school/college, and get a job with a living wage.

In other words, we’re here to support you and to help you learn to parent well.

And when your time with us is done, we’ll can still be here for you. Many of our moms and mentors develop such great relationships that they continue to meet even after they complete our program. And some of our moms end up becoming mentors so they can serve other moms!
